I’ve noticed that my life goes through phases. Like high school and college, a big change seems to come every four years. It’s like I graduate phases of life. After my first relationship, it took about 4 years for me to discover myself and the standards I expected from potential partners. After some trial and error, I found someone I consider the one. It took four years of college for me to notice maybe stamina isn’t up for Broadway musicals, but damn do I have a knack for Shakespeare. I was part of an amazing theatre family shaping our troupe, and after four years the complications of COVID led us to dissolve. A new stage has hit the four-year mark and is my time as a teacher. Many things contributed to my decision to start my next adventure and though I won’t go into detail, it feels right.
I learn things from every phase of life. I learned lessons that stick with me for years to come. One of the biggest things I have learned is that certain curtains close forever and others are just closed for a short intermission. Sometimes a revival is right around the corner. These stages all come with highs and lows, but over time I have developed a grand support system to help me through. I know that I tell all students to never google me until I am no longer your teacher, but let's face it… you never listened to that rule and we all know it. If you are one of my old students, listen up and listen well. Each one of you has made a significant impact on me and my worldview. This may be closing night, an intermission, or a closing with a revival around the corner, but one thing is for sure. I am a better person for my four years in this profession and for knowing all of you. Don’t be afraid to say hello when you see me in public. I would love to hear updates on how you are doing. To quote my favorite TV teachers:
“Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy!” (Ms. Frizzle, Magic School Bus)
“I love you all. Class dismissed.” (Mr. Feeney, Boy Meets World)
